European Fertility Week 2021: The focus on Male Infertility
This year, the European Fertility Week is dedicated to male infertility. The initiative, led by Fertility Europe, aims to raise awareness about male infertility and encourage men to learn more about their fertility, how to preserve it, how to find out if there is a problem, and what to do in case fertility treatment is needed.
It is important to remember that in 40% of infertile couples a male factor is present, so it is crucial to get across the message of timely fertility check-ups in all men trying for a pregnancy. All more important if we consider that most men typically don’t seek help, unless in acute medical need.
As the stigma associated with male infertility keeps men outside the discussion of sexual and reproductive health, the #ChallengeTheOdds campaign is all about encouraging men to talk open about infertility and seek advice, support and guidance.
Last, as Fertility Europe’s campaign on male infertility specifically states, all men trying for a pregnancy and faced with infertility should have equal access to fertility treatment services, irrespective of age, sexual orientation and marital status.
Let’s all support a big initiative. Let’s all help men seek actively advice about their fertility and challenge the odds!.
